The Kansas Speedway partnership and Penn National Gaming Inc. ( PENN - news - people ) in Wyandotte County on Monday received the local planning commission's approval. On June 4, the Unified Government of Wyandotte County and Kansas City, Kan., will decide whether to endorse the plans.
In Sumner County, South Central Gaming Partners told commissioners it would add a hotel to its first phase along with a casino. The commission already endorsed two other applicants. It met Tuesday but took no action.
Local approval is required before the Lottery can negotiate contracts with the applicants.
